This is the Planning Services street-by-street index of the Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) within Bournemouth. Although every effort is made to keep the index up to date there are continual changes taking place and new TPOs being made. The index lists the roads in alphabetical order with property numbers or names and the number of the TPO, type of Order and date it was made.

New or infill developments frequently take place on land already covered by a TPO, with new roads or house number(s) being made. It may take a while for the name of a new road and new house numbers to be incorporated into the TPO index. The TPO will still apply not with standing the changes. Where trees are protected by a TPO the majority of tree work, pruning and felling, will require consent from the Council. Anyone planning to carry out work to protected trees is strongly advised to contact the Tree Officers in Planning and Transport before proceeding. If you have any queries on an address with a TPO or about which trees are protected, or need an application form to apply for consent to work on protected trees, please contact Planning and Transport on 01202 451318. A free leaflet ‘Protected Trees’, is available on request.
Trees in Conservation Areas
There are additional regulations for the protection of trees in conservation areas (ca). Six weeks written notice must be given to the Local Planning Authority of proposed tree works. There are many CAs that also have TPOs and in these cases the TPO will take precedence. For further information on the Conservation Areas in Bournemouth, click here.
Trees and former Council Properties
Where Council properties have been sold under the Right to Buy scheme, there are likely to be legal covenants in place to protect the trees on those properties. Before carrying out tree works in these cases consent will be required from Head of Law and Corporate Governance, Town Hall, Bourne Avenue, BH2 6DY.
New Developments
New developments may have planning conditions that protect the trees. If you are in any doubt check with the Tree Section in Planning and Transport on 01202 451318.
