All councils in England are required by Government to assess the amount of land available for housing development in their area. This process is known as a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA). The assessments will provide the evidence base to support the delivery of sufficient land to meet the community’s need for more homes.
Bournemouth Council is working jointly with Christchurch, East Dorset, North Dorset, Poole and Purbeck councils on production of the SHLAA. To ensure each council provides consistent information from a single source, further information on the assessment, including the forms that landowners will need to complete to suggest potential sites to us, are available from the Borough of Poole’s website.
5 year supply of deliverable sites
In Bournemouth, the first stage of the SHLAA has been to identify a supply of sites with potential for housing development obver the next five years covering the period from April 2007 to March 2012.
The five year supply is based on outstanding consents (either dwellings under construction or those with consent but which have not been started, at 1 April 2007) and those allocations in the Bournemouth District-Wide Local Plan which are expected to come forward in the next five years. The annual supply is based on the draft Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) requirement of 720 dwellings (net) 2006 to 2016.
All figures contained in the schedule are the net increase in the number of dwellings for each site.
