Bournemouth is renowned for being lively as well as beautiful. It has a bustling nightlife, with a variety of popular clubs, pubs and bars, and two cinemas. There are also many restaurants, offering cuisine from around the world, to suit a range of budgets.
Variety in the arts
Arts venues are plentiful locally, and offer an impressively varied programme. Elements top West End musicals at the Pavilion. The Bournemouth International Centre plays host to large-scale productions like the enormously popular 'Riverdance', and a broad range of popular music - from Barry Manilow to The Prodigy. The visual arts are celebrated at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, which has been named Best Fine Art Museum by National Heritage.
Award-winning tourism
The popularity of Bournemouth as a holiday destination is borne out by the acclaim it has won for its facilities. The town has been awarded European Blue Flags for the cleanliness of its shoreline, and the Tidy Britain Group Seaside Awards. Its gardens, too, are award-winning: the town has won the Entente Florale award, and Britain in Bloom as well as having numerous Green Flags. Bournemouth's lively atmosphere makes it an ideal destination for young people, while its safe, clean beaches attract many families to the area. Top shops
Shopaholics can rest assured that Bournemouth offers the full range of high-street chains, with easy multi-storey parking. Pedestrianisation of the central Square has linked the town's two retail areas, to provide a pleasant shopping environment. For smaller, local shops, each district of Bournemouth has a high street with its own character, from the Victorian arcade of Westbourne, to the bric a brac shops of Boscombe.
