Progress on Structure Plan Provision

The Bournemouth, Dorset & Poole Structure Plan sets out a figure for the level of housing provision that should be made across Dorset during the period of the plan (1994-2011) based on the forecast growth in population.  Progress against this figure is monitored by each local authority in the county.

The Structure Plan requires Bournemouth Borough to make provision to enable 12,400 new dwellings (gross) to be constructed during the plan period 1994-2011. Based on the assumption that this provision will be met steadily through the Structure Plan period (17 years), an average of 730 dwellings per year (gross) need to be provided. Over the 13 years from 1994 to 2007, 9,490 new dwellings (gross) needed to be provided. The actual number of dwellings completed in the period was 12,612 new dwellings (gross), 3,122 dwellings above the requirement.
