The tables are extracts from the Floorspace and Rateable Value for Commercial and Industrial Properties 2007 report by DCLG. The tables provide data on numbers of properties, their floorspace areas and rateable values by bulk class. Local authority and middle layer super output area (MSOA) data is available from the Neighbourhood Statistics website
The tables provides information on the different types of non-domestic (commercial and industrial) property within Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole, broadly known as the 'bulk classes'. These include the following premises:- • Retail premises; • Office (total, commercial, and 'other' office types); • Factory; • Warehouse; and • Other bulk premises.
Units which do not fall into one of the five bulk classes are collectively known as the 'non-bulks'. The non-bulk category includes premises rated using other criteria (for example, turnover, in the case of public houses, the most prevalent non-bulk hereditament type), or those that are not conventional premises, such as ATMs and advertising rights. Floorspace information is generally not available for non-bulk premises and is therefore not available at local authority level.
One significant change made in the 2005 statistics is the addition by DCLG of a new bulk class called 'other bulk premises'. This class includes many of the properties that the VOA classified in their new 'miscellaneous' category that was introduced as part of the 2005 revaluation. Many of these miscellaneous properties would have been classed as retail premises, offices or non-bulk premises prior to 2005. The overall effect of the addition of this new bulk class has been to lower the total number of hereditaments and the total floorspace within the four original bulk classes (retail premises, offices, factories and warehouses). Rateable values and rateable values per m2 have also increased, but this is due to an increase in the value of the commercial rental market between the Antecedent Valuation Dates for the 2000 and 2005 Revaluations.
