The Indices of Deprivation provide an analysis of the relative deprivation of individual geographical areas.
The Index of Multiple Deprivation 2000, is based on 6 'domains' of deprivation:
Each domain comprises a number of indicators to describe deprivation; a total of 33 elements for the six domains. They include data from previously untapped data sources and they can be updated regularly to form the basis of a regular and consistent index.
