Generalised Land Use Database Statistics for England

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has published experimental statistics for land use.  They are provided for all of England as at 2001.  The statistics are from the Generalised Land Use Database for England and have been calculated for each local authority area and ward.  Land use is divided into nine simplified categories:

  • Domestic buildings
  • Gardens
  • Non domestic buildings
  • Roads
  • Rail
  • Paths
  • Greenspace
  • Water
  • Other (largely hardstandings)

Since they are experimental statistics, the methodology and quality are still being enhanced.
