Quick Population Facts

  • Bournemouth has an estimated population of 163,200 as at Mid-2007 (Source: ONS)
  • In 1801 Bournemouth's population was mainly resident in the parish of Holdenhurst.  The population at that time was just 489.  (Source: 1801 Census)
  • Nationally numbers of births exceed deaths, in Bournemouth deaths exceed births, although the gap has narrowed considerably in the last couple of years.  However currently population growth is driven principally by people moving to the area. (Source, Vital Statistics, 2006, ONS)
  • Around 92.5% of Bournemouth's population classified themselves as White British compared with 87.5% in England and Wales. (Source, 2001 Census, ONS)
