Supporting Disabled People at Work
Community Employment Services run a Supported Employment Programme to provide practical support and advice to:
- help people with a disability find and keep a job
- help people who have a job and become disabled to keep working
- support and develop disabled people in employment
We run the programme in conjunction with the Disability Services Team of the Employment Service which is based at Bracken House, Bournemouth. Our services are free and confidential.
Who can we help?
Our services are for people who live in Bournemouth and have a severe disability. Our experienced staff are positive about disabled people and the contribution they can make in the workplace.
How we help people with a disability to find and keep employment
If you have a disability and are looking for employment we work with you to match your abilities and skills to local job vacancies.
We do this by:
- liaising with you and potential employers to find a suitable job
- arranging re-training, specialist equipment or adaptations
When we find you a job
- you become a direct employee of the employing organisation
- we support and develop you in your new role by visiting you and your employer
- we help if there's a problem at work.
How we help people who become disabled whilst in employment
If you become disabled whilst in employment we can access help to:
- arrange specialist equipment or adaptations to keep you in the same job
- re-train you so you can keep working
How can you get help from Community Employment Services?
You can be referred to us by a:
- Disability Employment Advisor
- Social worker
- Occupational therapist
- Health professional
We welcome calls from people with disabilities seeking advice about employment, but final acceptance on the Supported Employment Programme is through the Disability Employment Advisor at the local Job Centre. We can liaise with the Employment Service on your behalf. If you think we may be able to help you, contact your nearest Social Services office.
