April Court is a residential home in north Bournemouth for adults with a learning disability, which also provides activities during the day by arrangement. Local shops are a short walk away and the bus stop for the frequent services to Bournemouth and Poole town centres is right outside the door.
 
Accommodation
We offer a variety of well-furnished rooms for 18 people. Each room is equipped with a wash hand basin: bathrooms are available for shared use. You'll have a key to your own room.
 
The décor is modern and we help make each room suit your taste and individual personality by encouraging you to bring your own belongings. We also involve you in choosing furniture and fittings.
 
Facilities for people with physical disabilities include ground floor rooms and access ramps. Your family and friends are welcome to visit April Court at any time.

Daily Living Skills

We help develop independent living skills such as:
  • personal care
  • cookery
  • using washing machines for laundry
  • looking after your own finances
  • making appointments and using local surgeries, shops, pubs etc.
Personal Development
We make a plan together for your needs and goals called an Individual Service Plan.
A named member of staff known as a keyworker will organise the plan. The deputy manager and two assistant managers are keyworkers and each of them leads a team of care assistants and residents. The care assistants help with personal care, shopping, leisure and other activities.

 

Your plan may include day care programmes at the home. The plan will be reviewed regularly with you and can be changed to meet your needs.

We may offer activities during the day such as:
  • daily living skills
  • personal development
  • environmental studies
Safety and Security
At least three members of staff are on duty at April Court at any time. We have a trained Health and Safety representative and two qualified first aiders. Regular visits and inspections are made by the Fire Safety Officer, the Registration and Inspection Unit, Bournemouth Social Services Catering Officer and Bournemouth Borough Council's Financial Services section.
 
Admissions and Charges
Applications to live at April Court are made through a social worker who makes a full assessment of your needs. There is a financial assessment to decide how much you will pay to stay at April Court.
