To Help People with Mental Health Problems
The Turbary Park Centre provides a range of services for people recovering from mental health problems who live in north Bournemouth. The area we cover is bordered by Northbourne, Wallisdown, Charminster and Bear Wood. The services are provided by Bournemouth Social Services working in partnership with Dorset HealthCare NHS Trust and the Education and Leisure Directorates of Bournemouth Borough Council.
Day Services
The Centre is open from Monday to Friday for people aged from 18-65. How many times you attend each week will depend on your needs.
We arrange activities working in small groups to help and support you with:
- improving your confidence
- daily living skills
- socialising
- education and leisure opportunities
The sessions we offer will be appropriate to your needs and may include:
- health and fitness activities
- music, dance and drama
- art and craft opportunities
- cooking
- use of local facilities
- lunch club
Coffee club
You can call into our Drop-In for coffee and chat on Mondays from 10:00am to 12noon. Experienced mental health workers will be available to help you:
- make new friends
- get advice and support
Charges
There is no charge for attending day services or visiting our Coffee Club.
You will need to pay for drinks and if you go on any trips we organise.
Access for Disabled People
There is no access to the Centre for physically disabled people.
North Bournemouth Community Mental Health Team
The Centre is also the base for this team which comprises:
- psychiatrists
- community mental health nurses
- social workers
- an occupational therapist
- helpful receptionists

Age Concern Welcome Club
Open Tuesday, Thursday and alternative Sundays from 10:30a.m.-3:30p.m. offering:
- card and board games and snooker
- guest speakers
- lunch
- outings

Citizens Advice Bureau
The Bureau visits the centre twice a month. You can book an appointment with a receptionist or through your care co-ordinator.
Evening and Weekend Community Mental Health Nursing Service
To find out if you can access this service please ask to see your care co-ordinator.
How to attend the day services
People are referred to the day services by a member of the Community Mental Health Team. You can contact them direct or ask your GP (local doctor) to do this for you.
Staff from the day services are available to talk about your situation and discuss your needs. If the Centre can provide services to help you we will work with you to plan them. We will then regularly review how effective the services are.
