The Mental Health Support Team helps people with long term mental health problems lead a normal life in their local community and aims to prevent hospital admission.
We also offer support to relatives, friends and neighbours who look after or care for people with a mental health need.
Who can we help?
If you live in Bournemouth and have a mental health problem you can contact the Mental Health Support Team direct or you may be referred to us by:
- your doctor or social worker
- Community Mental Health Team
- when being discharged from hospital on a Care Programme Approach (Level 1)
- voluntary organisations
- members of the public
What we offer
Here are some of the ways we support and encourage people recovering from a mental illness:
- practical help with day to day living
- building confidence
- Welfare Benefits advice
- residential care
- supported lodgings if you're not ready to live independently
- the chance to learn new skills, join in activities and meet people at day centres
- linking with voluntary organisations
- respite care
- help for people with mental illness who are homeless and may not have previously accepted services
- support to patients at Hahneman House and Nightingale Hospital.
How we assess your needs
You will receive support from a specific member of our team who will meet with you to talk about your situation and needs. We can then decide on the best way of meeting your individual needs. If you have a carer who provides a lot of regular assistance for you we also consider their needs. A carer may be a relative, friend or neighbour.
