Supported Lodgings

The Bournemouth Supported Lodgings Scheme provides accommodation and meals combined with practical and emotional support for adults who are not ready to live independently.
Accommodation is provided by private landlords and landladies who work in partnership with Bournemouth Social Service to offer:
  • a secure and safe home environment
  • help and support when it's needed.
If you choose, there is the opportunity to learn independent living skills which can increase self-confidence and independence.

Accommodation
Supported lodgings are approved by Bournemouth Social Services and offer:
  • a comfortably furnished, well heated room for private use
  • access to and use of a heated sitting room, dining room, bathroom, toilet and television
  • hot water for washing and bathing
  • clean bed linen and towels
  • personal laundry facilities
  • balanced, nutritious meals
  • regular drinks or drink-making facilities
Social Services Support
Each person living in supported lodgings will have a member of staff from Social Services, called a keyworker, to provide support when they initially move in and for as long as necessary.
We meet with the landlord / landlady and the person staying in the supported lodgings to review the arrangements:
  • six weeks after moving in
  • regularly after that - usually every six months.
If at any time you or the landlord or landlady feel your needs have changed you can contact us and we will reassess the situation.

How staying in supported lodgings can be funded
Payment for supported lodgings can be funded through:
  • Housing Benefit
  • your own private income
  • income which can be through Welfare Benefits or wages.
How accommodation in Supported Lodgings is arranged
Bournemouth Social Services Mental Health Support Team can assess the needs you have to see if they can be met by living in supported lodgings.
The supported lodgings are approved by Social Services staff who make careful checks including inspecting the property, interviewing the landlord/lady and making police checks.
