Bulky Household/domestic waste disposal


 Bulky Goods Collection Service

Bournemouth Borough Council offers residents a collection service for bulky household waste such as unwanted furniture and electrical appliances.

Please note that this service is chargeable (Minimum Charge is £40.63) and all items must be placed at the boundary of the property on day of collection.

Among the bulky items accepted are:

  • Fridges/freezers
  • Washing machines
  • Beds/mattresses
  • Sofas/armchairs
  • Tables/chairs
  • Televisions

You can arrange collection by calling the Ask Bournemouth Contact Centre on 451199.  CLICK HERE to complete an online form

If you are a Bournemouth resident and would like to dispose of some household waste, you may also take it free of charge to Millhams Community Recycling Centre. 

Other available options for disposing of bulky household goods include:

  • Dorset Reclaim- A charity which provides furniture and household items to those in the community who need it most. If you have good quality furniture, electrical or household items which you no longer need then please contact Dorset Reclaim on 01202 773384 or go to www.dorsetreclaim.org.uk .
  • Charity Shops – Donate any good quality furniture to charity shops and give it a second chance. Furniture is accepted by the British Heart Foundation, Winton. Call 01202 521673 to arrange free collection. Another option is Lewis-Manning Hospice, Winton.  Call 01202 684040 for details
  • Freecycle- Freecycle groups match people who have things they want to get rid of with people who can use them, and so keeping usable items out of landfills. Membership is free and everything is exchanged for free. Find them at http://www.uk.freecycle.org 
  • ebay- with money being tight in 2010, if it’s worth something then why not make some money from it. Put it on ebay and let the auction commence.

Much of this waste can be recycled or in the case of items such as fridges which contain potentially hazardous materials, disposed of in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

Together we can recycle more and waste less!
