The Council has teamed up with a number of private and voluntary sector partners to deliver improvements to the environment in innovative and cost effective ways
Mark & Spencer
The Council formed a unique eco-partnership with Marks and Spencer in 2007 when the High Street favourite refurbished its Bournemouth town centre store to become one of the company's new Eco stores in the Country.
The partnership resulted in M&S funding a number of environmental initiatives for the benefit of the town including:
- 150 combined street recycling and litter bins
- Five solar powered compacting bins for the seafront which compact the waste down so that the bin doesn't need emptying so much
- Three electric bikes with trailers for the Council’s Seafront Rangers to use rather than their vans
- Tree planting and brand-new seating outside its store in Commercial Road to improve the street environment
- A waste information pack for schools called Wise Up 2 Waste
Virgin Media
The Council has an agreement with Virgin Media which ensures that the utility boxes within the town stay graffiti free. Whenever a report comes in to say that a utlity box has been defaced, the Council carries out the work to repaint the boxes at the earliest opportunity and charges the cost back to Virgin Media.
Encams (Keep Britain Tidy Group)
The Council has teamed up as a partner organisation on several of Encams national campaigns targeting specific environmental crimes such as Smoke Related litter and Fast Food Litter. The partnering arrangements have led to the Council receiving national coverage for its efforts in tackling environmental crime and significant reductions in littering during the areas monitored as part of the various campaigns.
