The number of people who use the site is increasing all the time and so the pressure on the service is also growing. To ensure the service is maintained and the necessary improvements introduced, there are now some restrictions in place at the tip.
Bournemouth Borough Council owns Millhams Community Recycling Centre at Kinson (accessed from A348 Ringwood Road at Longham) for all residents who wish to dispose of bulky household waste or items which cant go into their kerbside recycling bin. A number of recent improvements have been carried out at the site including the introduction of colour coded signage and changes to the layout of the different waste areas to make visits easier for residents. Only those who live in Bournemouth can use the site on entering you will be asked for proof of residency ID such as Council Tax bill or photo ID such as driving licence. Trade waste is not allowed.
The type of waste which can be taken to Millhams includes: Bulky household items such as fridges, computers, televisions, mattresses and furniture Garden waste All kinds of wood and metal items Tyres Paints, garden pesticides and chemicals Rubble/soil (limited to six medium sized sacks/car boot load per week) Car batteries, oil and gas bottles Newspapers, cardboard, cans and bottles
STOP PRESS.....You can now buy items previously taken to Millhams for re-use!
To ensure no trade vehicles enter the site, regulations mean vans, trucks and lorries or any other vehicle which is not a domestic/family car will not be allowed entry into Millhams. However a residential permit scheme can be applied for.
Opening times are;
8am-7pm 1st of April - 31st of October
8am-5pm 1st of November 31st of March
Closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day
Each month the amount of waste taken to Millhams which ends up being recycled is displayed by the exit. Frequently the amount is more than 70 per cent.
