Bournemouth's children and young people's plan

The Children's Act 2004 places a duty on the local authority and its partners to produce a Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP) to be the single, strategic overarching plan for all local services for children and young people in the area aged up to 19 years.

The plan aims to secure improvements in outcomes for all children and young people in Bournemouth around the five outcomes of Every Child Matters:

  • Being Healthy - enjoying good physical and mental health, and living a healthy lifestyle.
  • Staying Safe - being protected from harm and neglect, and grouwing up to look after themselves.
  • Enjoying and Achieving - getting the most out of life and developing broad skills for adulthood.
  • Making a Positive Contribution - to the community and society, and not engaging in anti-social or offending behaviour
  • Achieving Economic Wellbeing - overcoming socio-economic disadvantages to achieve their full pontential in life.

Bournemouth's updated CYPP defines key priorities for action across all services, based on local needs identified through the annual review of Children's Services and our own self assessment. Planning at all levels is shaped by views of children, young people and families.

The 2008 Assessment confirms a continuing need to focus on priorities identified in our updated Children and Young People's Plan.  Colleagues from all organisations, schools, groups and agencies large and small will be meeting during November for the annual Children's Trust Planning Event, which aims to make joint working in each of the priority areas as effective as it can be.  For more details and the programme for the week, click here.
