In the past few years the Council has made good progress in increasing the supply of affordable housing in Bournemouth and in 2006/2007 a total of 150 new affordable housing units were completed. This includes shared ownership properties and social rented properties such as Chapter House in Boscombe and Etches Close in Northbourne. However over the next 3 years we are aiming to enable the completion of 1200 affordable housing properties in order to meet the housing need in Bournemouth. That’s 400 properties a year.
This is just one of the many aims we have in relation to housing over the next 3 years and these are all set out in Bournemouth’s new Housing Strategy. We have worked with residents and a variety of organisations to develop this Strategy which seeks to improve that quality and energy efficiency of all housing, bring empty homes back into use and improve access to information about housing options. The Strategy explains how the Council and our partners are going to achieve these aims and includes a detailed action plan.
