TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION

If you apply to us as Homeless, and we agree with your own assessment of your situation, we will always try to prevent you from becoming Homeless first.

You can find out more by following the link to Homelessness Prevention.

However in some cases, where there are complicated issues which we need time to investigate, or in an emergency such as a fire, we may need to place you in temporary accommodation. We will only do this as a last resort.

There several ways in which we may do this:

Bed and Breakfast; we use specific B&B landlords, on a short term basis, and on whom we know we can rely

Families: we have our own Hostel, owned and managed by Housing Landlord, at Morrell House. Only families with children are accommodated here. We also use another private sector Hostel.

Single People: We frequently make referrals to the Direct Access Hostel at 10 St Pauls Lane (known as the night shelter). We also have access to other private sector providers in the Borough. Follow the link to find out more about how we can help Single Homless People

  • Young People: we can make referrals to the YMCA, located in the Town Centre, and to other accommodation provided by, or in partnership with, RSL's and charitable organisations.

People with Special Needs: This will include those with Mental Health issues or Drug and/or Alcohol issues. Sometimes we can refer to the 10 St Pauls Lane hostel;  we also make referrals to providers of Supported Accommodation and may refer to Floating Support to provide additional help where appropriate (to help you claim benefits, find furniture etc..)

Whichever kind of Temporary Accommodation we use we will only decide this having assessed your particular circumstances so we use what is right for you.

PLEASE NOTE: All accommodation we use, temporary or otherwise, needs to be paid for so a charge is made which we may pass onto you. We will help you to apply for help in the form of, say, Housing Benefit, but there may still be a "top-up" you are required to pay. We will always try to make accommodation as affordable as possible whatever your circumstances.
