What Can I do to Help the Council?

If you are a leader or representative of a particular focus group or simply an individual please contact us as above.  We want to find out what the issues are and learn from you so we can provide a better service for our public.

Who has been involved so far?

We have already spoken with the following:

  • Some of the organisations in Bournemouth respresenting Gay interests including Gay and Grey.
  • Some of our Muslim tenants and community contacts.  We also went on an Introduction to Islam course at the Bournemouth Mosque.
  • Some of our Jewish tenants and a visit to the Bournemouth Synagogue.
  • Black cultural and interest groups including the Dorset African & Caribbean Association (DACA).
  • A representative from the Bournemouth Portugese community who is setting up a Portuguese Community centre in Boscombe.
  • Organisations and individuals representing disability issues including Dorset Occupational Theraly Services (DOTS) and Wessex Disability.

Al-Amani Multi-Cultural Pre-school

The Al-Amani pre-school is the first bilingual English/Arabic pre-school in Bournemouth and is truly multi-cultural. The mission of the pre-school is "Where learning is fun and different for everyone!"

All are welcome from the bournemouth community. For further information contact Amal Shibani (Pre-school Leader) at amalshibani@yahoo.co.uk or you can visit the website

What do I do if people are giving me a hard time about being different?

We take these issues very seriously.  If you are being bullied about your colour or ethnic group, disability, religion, sexuality or gender please tell us.  In turn we can report this to the Police but do not have to if you don't want us to.  You do not have to give us your name or address but by providing details and descriptions of the people involved we can take action.  You can also report racist or religious grafitti.

If you have a racial issue and would like support from the Dorset Race Equality Council please contact their website on

www.dorsetrec.org

or email them on

enquiries@dorsetrec.org.uk
