Sexual Orientation & Gender

We in Housing Landlord Services value & respect the different sexual orientations and genders of our tenants, leaseholders, staff, councillors and customers.  We aim to provide an 'LGBT friendly' service and welcome your views in achieving this.

Our Diversity Strategy

Our draft Diversity Strategy (1.29 MB) 3 minutes to download, provides definitions for what Gay, Lesbian, Bissexual and Transexual orientations are.  It also explains the statistics and issues as we understand them but is a live document so feedback & comments are welcome.  The Housing Diversity Panel is also being consulted on and is contributing to this key document.

Gender

We also celebrate the different genders and have been working with, for example, the Women & Children United multi-cultural group.  It is hoped that a male version of this group will be established soon.

The draft Diversity Strategy includes a section on Gender that is currently being reviewed.  Housing Landlord Services also supports International Women's Day that commemorates the Female gender but we are also keen to involve Male orientated issues here as well.

If there is anything on Gender issues you would like included please let us know.

Recent Studies on Gay issues

Recent studies have taken place to assess the needs and aspirations of the Gay people and communities in Dorset.  The Weymouth Police Lesbian & Gay Officers (LAGLO) survey (768 KB) 2 minutes to download looks at the impact of Homophobic incidents in the area.

The pan-Dorset Gay & Grey study (532 KB) 1 minute to download, examined the issues for older Gay people in Dorset.  The research has shown, for example, that it is more difficult to 'come out' for older people due to legal issues in the past and in rural areas.

Bourne Free

Bourne Free is the event formerly known as Gay Pride that celebrates sexual orientation & diversity in Bournemouth.  It usually takes place in the Summer.
