The Council works alongside its partners to boost the supply of and access to decent affordable housing across Bournemouth. There are a number of strategies and plans in place that set out our aims and how we plan to meet these aims.

Private Sector Housing Renewal Strategy
A key objective of the Council's Housing Strategy is to reduce risks to health and safety in private sector rented accommodation and bring about the improvement of unsatisfactory housing in Bournemouth.
The Housing Strategy is supported by the Council's Private Sector Housing Renewal Strategy. The Policy for giving loans and grants for Home Improvement is contained in a seperate document.

Housing Plan for People with Learning Disabilities
2007 - 2012
In the past few years, the Council has worked alongside a variety of services and agencies to improve the housing choices available to people with learning disabilities and their carers. As part of our vision to continue this success, a Housing Plan has been produced which sets out our aims over the next 5 years. It will develop the housing options available to help people with learning disabilities live how and where they want.

Empty Homes Strategy
There were 2022 empty homes in Bournemouth as at April 2007, 615 of which had been empty for more than 6 months. This is a valuable resource and the Council has a commitment to reduce the number of empty properties in Bournemouth and put them to good use. The Council is to resource an Empty Property Officer on 2008/2009 to undertake this work and an Empty Homes Strategy will also be produced in 2008/2009.
