One of the most important responsibilities of the Planning Policy team is the production of the Council's policy for future developments in the town. In simple terms, it gives people an idea of the types of development that will and will not be permitted, and where development is likely to take place. It tackles a wide range of land-use issues such as housing, transport, the economy, conservation and recreation and leisure.
Adopted policy The document setting out the Council's planning policy is the Bournemouth District Wide Local Plan. The adopted Bournemouth District Wide Local Plan forms part of the development plan covering the Borough. Additional planning guidance is given in the form of Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) and Planning Guidance Notes (PGN).
Emerging policy The Bournemouth District Wide Local Plan will eventually be replaced by the Local Development Framework (LDF) as set out in the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. The LDF will consist of a series of planning policy documents (Local Development Documents). The production of documents and policies making up the LDF is being overseen and advised by the LDF Steering Group.
