Summary of Opportunities
- Link centres together by providing quality public transport services, walking and cycling measures
- Provide Urban Traffic Control (UTC)/Transport management along corridors linking these centres
- Develop Land-use policies to support these measures
- Encourage large retail chains to support local shopping centres
- Encourage employers, business and retail outlets, schools and colleges to adopt Green Transport Plans
- Work with the County and District Councils to improve links for all modes of transport
- Work closely with adjacent highway authorities (Hampshire and Wiltshire County Councils) and the Highways Agency and Government Offices in developing transport links from Dorset to the north, including devising appropriate routing strategies
- Press for early implementation of the proposed regional study for the A36/A46 and to extend its brief to cover access to South East Dorset, particularly in respect of improved access to and from the Port of Poole
- Rail extension to Swanage via Wareham and the Steam Railway for more than just tourism
- Establish dialogue with local groups to establish particular needs, e.g. Residents Associations, Chamber of Trade, etc.
- Consult specific groups, e.g. Cyclists, Ramblers, etc.
- Promotion of TRAVELWISE through a comprehensive education and advertising campaign
- Enhancing rail links to the Port of Poole
