Conclusion and Recommendations

These consultation results provide a broad overview of opinions from the wider community of the Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch conurbation.

In light of the views expressed in the various consultation on local transport issues, the following recommendations were made:

The Local Transport Plan strategies and proposals were re-appraised in the light of the broad themes of QUALITY, CONVENIENCE AND SAFETY that have arisen from the consultation process.

There is overriding opinion that public transport needs improvement if it is to become a viable option to excessive car use. Also, encouraging 'green' alternatives such as cycling and walking are considered important.

There should be no road user or workplace charging in this five-year plan. Any future decision on these methods should be deferred until experience has been gained elsewhere.

Action

The feedback from each stage of consultation was incorporated into the development of the full Plan, e.g.

The LTP Vision and Objectives and each Transport Strategy were re-evaluated on their contribution to the QUALITY, CONVENIENCE AND SAFETY of travel.

Public transport measures were given higher priority on funding Road User and Workplace Charging was not incorporated into this five-year plan.
