Bournemouth Mental Health Allocations Panel

Bournemouth Borough Council and Dorset Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to announce the launch of an allocations panel for accommodation based mental health services funded by Supporting People in Bournemouth.

Core Aim & Purpose

To match the housing & support needs of people with mental ill health in Bournemouth, with available and appropriate housing resources.

Main Objectives

  1. To achieve the best match between people’s needs and the available accommodation.

  1. To ensure that the needs of people with mental ill health are met through joint provision from Supporting People, Housing Solutions, Homes for People, Community Care and the NHS.

  1. To ensure the effective use of accommodation and support services by people with mental ill health within Bournemouth.

  1. To identify the extent of unmet need or surplus provision to inform Supporting People, Homes for People and Mental Health Services in order for planned strategy and commissioning to take place.

  1. To achieve a high level of successful placements into supported housing within Bournemouth.

Administration

All referrals into mental health services (both long and short term) funded by Supporting People are now made through the Mental Health Allocations Panel.

If you would like to refer someone in your care or you yourself require supported housing and have a mental health problem you must complete a Supported Housing Assessment Form and send it to Eileen Jenkins (Panel Administrator) at Housing Solutions, Bournemouth Borough Council, St. Stephens Road, Bournemouth, BH2 6DY.

If it is an emergency you can fax the form to Eileen on 01202 454624 but please telephone first on 01202 451265 to let her know you are making an emergency referral.

It is really important that the form is fully completed so that the panel members are as informed as they can be about a person’s background in order to make a well informed decision about the referral.

Care Co-ordinators are invited to the meeting to answer questions and provide additional information as required.

Service Providers who have vacancies are invited to the relevant part of the meeting to hear the cases and inform the discussion as and when required in terms of their Service.

Following a decision by the panel, a person will be contacted by their Care Co-ordinator to progress the referral with the allocated Service Provider or Service staff.

All progress must be fed back to our Panel Administrator (Eileen Jenkins) so that she can update the online directory and the next panel meeting.  Where a person’s referral is not successful they will go back to the next panel meeting to look at alternative options.

Please be aware that Service Providers will not accept direct referrals from individuals or agencies.  Any referral must go through the panel.

Online Directory

Our online directory lists the services which are subject to the allocations panel and also states whether a service has a current vacancy.

Please take a look and if you find a service which looks appropriate to you or the person you are referring please state it as a preference on your Supported Housing Assessment Form.
