Bournemouth Fostering Team is a trusted, not for profit organisation with a wealth of experience and expertise in supporting families and communities.
We make sure that you’re fully prepared and supported to become a foster carer and ready to meet the needs of different children. You will be supported to access a wide range of training opportunities and will be able to access a range of other childcare specialist help, practical and rapid support, therapeutic, health and educational advice.
As a Bournemouth Borough Council foster carer you’re part of a supportive and inclusive team. You’ll have your own Supervising Social Worker who will be there to support and advise you as well as an experienced fostering mentor. Your Supervising Social Worker will provide regular supervision and will be available to you on the phone.
Regular Foster Carer forums are held throughout the year, this an opportunity for carers develop their support network within Bournemouth’s fostering community. There is the opportunity to develop you knowledge and skills through the professional speakers, as well as sharing experiences with other foster carers.
Throughout the year the we hold a number of social events for foster carers and their families to get together such as our annual Summer picnic, our Christmas Mince Pie Morning and annual Foster Carer Awards Evening.
Sons and daughters of Foster Carers are invited to join a support group called ‘Funky Monkeys’. They enjoy outings and social events where they can meet other children who foster.
There is an Out of Office Hours emergency help line where you can speak to a social worker after normal working hours and all Bank Holidays so carers never feel they are on their own.
We pay allowances at above the National Minimum Fostering Allowance rate to cover the expenses incurred in caring for a looked after child or young person, this includes funds for clothing, pocket money, savings, household and petrol.
There are also generous tax allowances| for foster carers.
You will have a foster carer ID card which will get you discounts at various leisure and retail outlets in Bournemouth and the surrounding area.
Bournemouth subscribes to Foster Talk| which provides the most comprehensive range of Foster Carer support services. They focus on supporting you in your fostering career. Understanding that fostering involves everybody in the household – not just the main Carer – so they believe it’s only right that their great range of benefits extend to the entire Foster Carer household.
