Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy staff assess your difficulties with day-to-day living. They work with you to find ways of doing essential tasks such as cooking or bathing or how making changes at home can keep you independent.

We give advice

• on alternative ways of managing tasks
• to carers on moving and handling techniques, e.g. to help someone get in or out of bed, then provide written instructions
• about equipment you can buy
• and loan of equipment to help
• on small changes at home such as a grab rail by the toilet or a stair rail
• on adapting your property, e.g. for a level access shower or stair lift.

We work:

• with other people involved in your care
• with other parts of the Council and housing associations
• as specialist disability advisors for housing and public building design.

Do I have to pay for occupational therapy services?

There are is no charge for:

• Assessing your needs
• Advice and information
• Loaning essential equipment to meet your needs

There may be charges for certain adaptations.
