Sight and Hearing Services

What we do

We assist people who have serious difficulties with their sight, hearing or both. Our team members have specialist skills and knowledge and offer practical advice on:

  • managing at home
  • communication skills
  • employment.

We also offer:

  • mobility training to help you get about safely and confidently
  • workshops on cooking and budgeting
  • information on specialist equipment
  • registration of sight/hearing impaired people.

Try out equipment

Visit the Resource Centre| at BSVI (Bournemouth Society for the Visually Impaired) to try out equipment and aids which help with day-to-day living. This will give you a good idea of what would be useful for you. The range of equipment includes:

  • large button phones
  • talking clocks and watches
  • amplifiers for televisions and doorbells.

The Resource Centre is open 10am-1pm Monday-Friday at:

Are there charges?

The assessment services of the Sight and Hearing Services Team are free. You will need to pay for most equipment to help with day-to-day living.
