What is Extra Care Housing?

Living in an extra care housing scheme means you have your own home with the care and support you need to live independently. The purpose-built accommodation and facilities comprise:

• one- and two-bedroom self-contained apartments to rent
• communal areas including lounge, dining room, laundry, garden
• a care team to manage the site and support your independence
• home care staff to provide support for people who need it.

Who can live in Extra Care Housing?

The schemes are designed for you if you are:

• Over 55
• Eligible for Bournemouth Council’s Housing Register
• Are physically or mentally frail or have a long-term condition which will require more care in time
• Living in housing that cannot be adapted to meet your needs
• Are thinking about moving to a care home or already living in a care home but would prefer to live independently with support.
• Do not have the finances for a private scheme.
