Getting About Ticket

The ‘Getting About Ticket’ is a one day ticket valid for unlimited travel on the day of purchase for most buses within Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. The ticket is accepted on the following bus operators:- Wilts and Dorset-including More Buses, RATP Yellow Buses, Bournemouth Airport Shuttle, Damory, Dolphin Coaches, Gardbus, First and Shaftesbury and District. The ticket is bought from the driver of the first bus you use and then valid for the rest of that day when shown on boarding other buses. The ticket is not valid on ‘night bus’ services. The ticket can only be used for travel within Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. The ticket cannot be used for travel outside of this area. So it is not valid for travel to Ringwood, Wimborne, Ferndown, Salisbury or Swanage. The exact area of validity is shown on the local ‘Area Bus Map’ available from the Information Office at Bournemouth Rail and Coach Station – underneath Asda.

Prices are:

Adult £5.80

Young Person (up to 18 with proof of age, otherwise up to 15 yrs) £3.60

Group (up to 2 Adults, 2 young people) £14.00.


Bournemouth School Buses

The council funds a number of dedicated school buses for the following schools

Avonbourne and Harewood

Route 45 – from Moordown, Charminster and Boscombe.

Route 46 – from Throop, Muscliffe, Moordown and Winton.

Route 81 – from Charminster and Townsend.


Bournemouth School and Bournemouth School for Girls

Route 60 – from Wallisdown, West Howe and Ensbury Park.


St Peters Schools

Routes 85,86,87 and 88 - From various parts of Bournemouth.


Queens Park Schools

Route 49 – from Cooper Dean and Townsend.

All the above routes are provided by Yellow Buses, full details of the routes are on their website|


There are as number of other school buses provided on a commercial basis and in addition a number of network bus services also serve schools.

Bournemouth International Airport Bus Service

There is a regular bus service to Bournemouth Airport from the town.

Bournemouth Rail and Coach Station

Trains, coaches and local bus services feed into the main Bournemouth Rail and Coach station – also known as the Travel Interchange.

The Council provides an information office at the site which is staffed 7 days a week from 8.00am to 5.00pm (lunchtime closure between 1.15pm and 2.15pm). The office can provide tourist information and an accommodation booking service together with local bus tickets and passes.

Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Councils produce an Area Bus Map detailing all the routes. Copies are available from the Bournemouth Rail and Coach Station office or a copy can be posted to you – please email your name and address to|

‘More’ M1 and M2 Night Buses| - Bournemouth Council contributes to the night buses which operate on Friday and Saturday nights.


The Council tries to provide supported bus routes to benefit as many residents as possible – especially in areas where there are no commercial bus services.


Bus Shelters

Shelters at bus stops are provided by the Council through our contract with Clearchannel. To report damage to a bus shelter either telephone 01202 454645 or email| Please include clear location details. All shelters are identified by a number which starts 2201, please provide if possible.

Coach Services

National Express provides regular coach services from Bournemouth Rail and Coach Station to London Victoria, Heathrow and Gatwick Airports and many other destinations throughout the UK. National Express has a booking office at the Rail and Coach Station or, alternatively, visit their website National Express Coaches|.


Displays at Bus Stops

At a number of key bus stops in Bournemouth an electronic display indicates when the next buses are due. The sign will show either a time for the bus to arrive or a countdown in minutes of when the bus is due.


The Council is currently under taking a trial for a Solar Powered Bus Stop| with ambient lighting. Please send us any feedback by 31st May 2013.

There are two stations in the area – Bournemouth and Pokesdown (for Boscombe).


South West Trains provide a service westbound to towns such as Poole, Dorchester and Weymouth and eastbound to those such as Brockenhurst, Southampton, Winchester and London.|


Cross Country Trains provide trains to Reading, Oxford, Birmingham and through to Manchester.|
