Road Safety education for children and young people covers a variety of aspects.
Within the website you will find information on:
Phase.1 – 8-9 years old / Phase.2 - 9-11 years old. The training covers simple manoeuvres such as looking and indicating through eight activities which are continually assessed. There is a certificate for successful completion.
Safety Training Education Programme (STEPs) – Is delivered to a number of Year.1 & Year.4 children at local Bournemouth Schools. Children are educated about safe places to cross the road and how to cross the road safely at junctions, safe crossing places and between parked cars.
Knowing which car seat to put your child in at a given age, weight or height or knowing what the law is regarding seat belt wearing can be a little daunting, look at the Child car seat page for information and links to answer any questions you may have or dates for a child car seat check.
We lend out road safety equipment to pre-schools to teach road safety skills to children at a young age, this equipment can be used over one week free of charge.
This service has been provided in Bournemouth for many years, enabling children and adults to cross the road safely. This service is more vital since the increase of vehicles on our roads and congestion around schools. We would like to encourage more children to walk to school to relieve the congestion at the school gate and to promote a healthier lifestyle by walking at least once a day too / from school
