What is the Green Goals Project?

The award-winning Green Goals project is a unique partnership linking football, education and business with the aims of improving the local environment, raising awareness and benefiting the community as a whole.

The Green Goals Community Fund 2011-12

The Green Goals Community Fund is a fantastic opportunity for local community groups to access funding for schemes which improve the local environment, engage children and young people in environmental activities, raise awareness of environmental issues or engage children and young people in healthy activities.

Community associations, sports clubs and local interest groups can all apply for environmental grants of up to £1,000 to help kickstart a green or healthy living project.

 

Does my project qualify for funding?

Your project must fulfill certain criteria to be in with a chance of being successful for funding.

  • It could be new sports equipment,
  • Some seeds and tools to start a community garden,
  • Some money to help bring about greener benefits (such as bicycles)
  • Or installing environmental fixtures in a meeting place.

The projects supported by the community fund can range vastly but must all encourage healthy lifestyles or be part of an environmental initiative.

All partners are working together to raise environmental awareness throughout the community, improve quality of life and keep Bournemouth a Cleaner, Safer, Greener place to live and visit.

  

What has the project implemented so far...

The 2009/10 football season saw the following activities:

  • A range of education initiatives were used by The Cherries Learning Centre focussing on environmental issues and raising standards in literacy, numeracy and ICT.
  • Innovative advertising on Council refuse freighters displaying environmental messages.
  • A series of Green Goals clean-up events
  • Advertising boards displayed within AFC Bournemouth's Dean Court Stadium.
  • Regular Green Goals updates within AFC Bournemouth matchday programmes.
  • Exclusive Green Goals competitions to win match day tickets, football merchandise and mascot opportunities.

Our successful initiatives in 2010/11 Season

During the 2010/2011 season the project launched The Green Goals Community Fund - a fantastic opportunity for local community groups to access funding for schemes which improve the local environment, engage children and young people in environmental activities, raise awareness of environmental issues or engage children and young people in healthy activities.
  • A range of Green Goals promotional/awareness events throughout the year.
  • A series of Green Goals clean up events linking with local schools and involving AFCB star players and Cherry The Bear!
