Birch Polypore - Piptoporus betulinus
This species is also called the Razorstrop Fungus. This species becomes very hard, and it is said that it was once used to sharpen razor and other blades! It grows on birches (a Silver Birch in this picture), and can be found all year round. It also has antibiotic properties. The fruiting bodies can remain on the tree for several years.
