Bournemouth's beaches won 4 Blue Flags in 2009
The international Blue Flag Award is your independant guide to Britain's cleanest and safest beaches.
Bournemouth seafront’s reputation for clean beaches, safe bathing and excellent facilities has been recognised by the international Blue Flag Award scheme since 1990. For 2009 we have secured Blue Flags for the following beaches:

Southbourne beaches.

Green Tourism Award
Bournemouth Borough Council’s Seafront Operations team are proud to have acheived a ‘silver’ award from the Green Tourism Business scheme.
The award demonstrates a commitment to sustainable tourism and minimising its damage to the environment. The seafront has been assessed by an external auditor and meets minimum standards of good practice across a range of areas including:
· Good monitoring procedures for energy usage.
· Clear targets set for energy, water and waste reduction.
· Good waste management practices including provision of public recycling facilities.
Bournemouth seafront was the first seafront in the UK to win this award.

Quality Coast Award
Bournemouth Beach was awarded the Qulaity Coast Award in 2008. This shows that Bournemouth Beach has very high standards.
The beach was assessed on different catergories including:
- Cleansing Standards
- Posts, Signs and Street Furnisher
- Surfaces, Buildings and Steps
- Bins
Environmental Excellence Award
At the 2008 Dorset Business Awards an award for Environmental Excellence was awarded to the seafront. This award reflex the hard work put into keeping beaches clean all year round, aswell as the innovative environmental schemes that are in place along the seafront.
