Bournemouth's famous cliff lifts operate between Easter and the end of October each year and offer spectacular views of the bay with the Isle of Wight within touching distance to the east and the Isle of Purbeck and Old Harrys Rocks to the West.
Running on tracks, the lifts are actually classed as light railways.
The West Cliff Lift, built in 1908, links the seafront with the Bournemouth International Centre, the South Coast's premier venue for entertainment shows and exhibitions.
The East Cliff Lift, also built in 1908, links the Russell Coates Art Gallery & Museum with the beach. The museum and art gallery is free and is open every day except Mondays.
The Fisherman's Walk Clif Lift, built in 1935, links the beach with a great cliff top cafe and children's play area.
The cliff lifts are currently closed for the winter period. However West Cliff lift will be open for the Christmas period and will operate from 26th December 2008 until 11th January 2009. Times of operation will be 9.30am - 4.30pm (weather permitting).
The cliff lifts will resume normal service Easter 2009.
