Bullying-What can you do?

Speak up, no one deserves to be bullied

It's a subject that no one really likes to talk about-especially if it is happening to you. But bullying, or being bullied at school, at home or when you are outside of school, is not right-and you have to put your foot down and stop it.

Bullying can be defined as deliberately hurtful behaviour, repeated over a period of time, where it is difficult for those being bullied to defend themselves. The three main types of bullying are:

  • physical (e.g. hitting, kicking, theft)
  • verbal (e.g. name calling, racist remarks, being called a chicken)
  • indirect (e.g. spreading rumours, excluding someone from social groups)

If you are being bullied, or you know someone who is, don't be scared. This will and can be stopped, but you have to be the brave one and tell someone you trust. It can be a teacher, an older friend or your parents-but you must tell someone, because you might not be the only one who is being bullied by this person or group. By confiding in someone, who have made the first step to being happy again, and stopping the heartless people that have made your life horrible.
