What is the Local Welfare Assistance Fund?
Free support for people with money problems
We want to make sure people in difficulty get all the help we’re able to give them. We've set up the Local Welfare Assistance Fund to support people facing severe money problems. To qualify for help, you must:
- Live in Bournemouth
- Be 16 or over
- Have a low income
- Have savings less than £500
- Have no access to any other financial help
When you apply online, we’ll be able to confirm if we can help.
Apply as soon as you know you’re in trouble
The sooner you get in touch the easier it is for us to help. If you qualify, we can give you help with the following:
- Paying for heating and lighting(if you have a prepayment meter)
- Baby items (including nappies and formula milk)
We can also put you in touch with other local support organisations. They can give you free advice on money management and debt.
What do I do if I’m facing homelessness?
In a severe crisis, such as losing your home, you need to speak to our housing options team straight away.
Act quickly and early. The sooner you get in touch, the sooner we can help.
