- Licensing
The licensing of premises, including liquor licensing places of entertainment, night cafes, theatre, taxis etc. and an inspection programme to make sure the conditions are complied with.
- Health and Safety at Work
The inspection of places of work to ensure the health, safety and welfare of employees and customers; investigating accidents in the work place.
- Food Hygiene and Safety
A programme of routine inspection of all business involved in the production or sale of food; a food sampling programme; food hygiene training for food handlers; the delivery of training courses to business.
- Infectious Disease and Food Poisoning
Investigating cases of notifiable disease and preventing spread.
- Air Pollution
Dealing with complaints of nuisance from air pollution; monitoring local air quality as part of a national network, licensing industrial premises that emit pollutants.
- Noise
Dealing with complaints of nuisance from noise pollution, advising on the noise implications of new developments and local licence applications.
- Land Contamination
Investigating potentially contaminated land and ensuring contaminated sites are made fit for use.
- Water Quality
Helping to maintain national bathing and river water quality standards; providing environmental information to the public.
- Private Sector Housing Renewal
Using the law to deal with disrepair and unfitness in private sector housing; implementing a strategy to ensure that finance and action is targeted properly by continuing to regulate houses in multiple occupation through the HMO inspection programme and registration scheme; working with partners to implement an accreditation scheme for landlords; giving grants for facilities to help disabled residents adapt their homes; giving loans and grants for home renovations, repairs and energy efficiency improvements.

- Mobile Home Parks
Licensing and inspecting residential mobile home parks.
- Inspecting farms and using the law dealing with animal health.
- Regulating licensed animal establishments.
- Licensing pet shops and other animal boarding establishments.

- Dealing with stray dogs and dog control issues.
- Informed, confident consumers
Providing a consumer advice service; investigating consumer complaints.

Providing advice and information to business.
- Enforcement of a fair and safe trading environment
Undertaking an inspection programme to ensure businesses are meeting the requirements of fair-trading and product safety rules.
- Managing the Crematorium and Cemeteries to provide a range of high standard options for the bereaved. Also, support To the Coroner by the provision of a public mortuary and other facilities
- The registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths for Bournemouth residents and the provision of facilities for marriage ceremonies.
