Complaints About Food Businesses

All food businesses within Bournemouth are visited and inspected on a regular basis. At every inspection the officer makes an assessment of the structure, the food hygiene practices and the management systems that are operated. From this assessment the inspector calculates a score for the premises which will determine the next time the premises is visited by an inspector.

We treat complaints about food businesses very seriously. If you wish to report a specific problem contact us. You will be asked to give the name and address of the premises you are complaining about, together with your details. Your personal details are kept in the strictest of confidence, but are necessary so we can contact you for further information or clarification.

Common types of complaint include: -

  • Poor handling practices by staff
  • Contaminated food
  • Pest problems
  • Poor structural condition of the premises
  • Poor standards of cleanliness

Once you have made a complaint it will be logged on our database and you will be contacted by the investigating officer. They will advise you what action is possible and may need some further details from you. Once the matter has been investigated you will be advised of the outcome of your complaint. Please note due to confidentiality requirements we may not be able to give you in depth information about our investigations.
