Bournemouth Borough Council, like all local authorities in this country, has a duty to inspect its district for potentially contaminated land.
The Council will be investigating areas close to a former landfill site to check the levels of any gases being produced. This will start at the beginning of July 2008 and last for up to twelve months.
The monitoring locations are positioned throughout Elliot Road Industrial Estate, which is a site previously used to bury waste. Bournemouth University will be doing the work. This involves placing small standpipes into the ground in Council-owned open space and various other areas within the industrial estate. Monitoring results will then be collected every two weeks.
