Our Service To Business
Environmental Health and Trading Standards : Enforcement Service Standards
Bournemouth's Public Protection Officers exist to protect the public by enforcing the law relating to public health, safety and consumer protection.

Most businesses want to comply with the law. We take care to help business and others meet their legal obligations without unnecessary expense.

A small minority of businesses flout the law or act irresponsibly, maybe deliberately for financial gain, or due to serious negligence. It is in everyone's interests that firm action is taken in such cases, to ensure a level playing field for all, to protect the public, and to preserve the good reputation of the vast majority of honest traders.

Bournemouth Borough Council has adopted the Enforcement Concordat, promoted by the Government as a common national standard for good enforcement practices.

The sections of this document listed on the left describe the clauses in the Enforcement Concordat together with further information on our service, where necessary.
