You are Here: Business in Bournemouth / Recession Fund
Recession Fund

The Fund was set up by the Council in response to the current difficult economic situation.  The funds aim to stimulate local economic activity and create new opportunities for growth.  To apply for funding please complete the application form at the bottom of the page.

How much money is available?

£650,000 was available in 2009/10 and £350,000 is available in 2010/11.

Who is eligible to bid for the funds?

Organisations or groups which represent private or public bodies within Bournemouth, such as Bournemouth Chamber of Trade & Commerce, Bournemouth Tourism Management Board, and Citizen’s Advice Bureau.   The funds must be spent within Bournemouth and the initiatives covered need to benefit the wider community.

This scheme is not designed to assist individual or private companies and they are not eligible to apply directly to the Fund.  However, they are encouraged to work with their trade or community organisations to submit collective bids that can be shown to benefit the wider business or resident community.  Bids that show matched funds will also be encouraged.

What sort of projects will be considered?

The types of projects eligible for consideration include:

(1) Projects which create and protect local jobs.

(2) Initiatives which support local businesses and promote the marketing of Bournemouth.

(3) Projects that provide advice and guidance for Bournemouth residents on countering the effects of recession.

How will projects be assessed?

Applications for funds will be considered by the Council's Executive Board.  The Board includes the Leader of the Council, the Deputy Leader and Chief Executive Officer.

How does my organisation apply?

All applicants need to address eligibility criteria outlined above and complete a formal application form.  You can request an application form from Christopher Kelu by emailing christopher.kelu@bournemouth.gov.uk or calling 01202 454630

Key issues to address include economic impact, how this will be measured, evidence of matched funding being proposed by the bidder, and whether the project can be delivered quickly and within the specified timeframe of 2009-11.

All projects will be reviewed in writing by the Executive Board.  The Board reserves the right to request some applicants to make a formal presentation.

What is the deadline for applications?

Bids will be considered at Executive Board on Monday 18th January 2010.  We must receive your application by Friday 18th December 2009.
