Early Education Funding for Two Year Olds

Do you have a two year old?  If so, you may be able to claim Two’s Too Funding to help pay for childcare

The early education funding covers up to 15 hours of childcare a week and can be used at local nurseries, pre-schools and childminders to suit your child’s individual needs. If one parent or carer within the household is in receipt of at least one of the following, they are able to apply:
  • Working tax credits and have annual gross household earnings of no more than £16,190
  • Income Support or Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element
  • Extra Working Tax Credit relating to disability
  • An income related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999
  • The Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit
  • The child has a current statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN) or an Education, Health and Care Plan
Or if the child
  • Receives Disability Living Allowance
  • Has left care through a special guardianship or an adoption or residence order
  • Is looked after by a Local Authority

When can I begin claiming the funding if my child is eligible?

Your child will become eligible to claim funding from the term following their second birthday:
Child's Birthday When Funding Can Start 
1 January - 31 March 1 April (Summer Term)
1 April - 31 August 1 September (Autumn Term)
1 September - 31 December 1 January (Spring Term) 
See if you can claim by using our online checker. You will need the following information:
  • Your own name and date of birth
  • Contact details
  • National Insurance number or national Asylum Seekers Number
  • Child's name and date of birth

If your application is successful

You will be sent a unique reference number which you should give to your chosen childcare provider to enable them to claim the funding for your child.
