Home Education: Other Circumstances

Other reasons for home education

Attending school part-time

You can ask a school if your child can be taught there part-time. At the moment, no Bournemouth schools have said they are willing to teach home-educated children on a part-time basis.

If your child has a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education Health Care Plan, the school will tell our Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Elective Home Education (EHE) teams when you withdraw your child from school.

My child is at a special school

You’ll need to let the school know you want to home educate your child. They will then tell our SEN team.

You’ll then need to tell our SEN team how your education plan will meet their Statement’s needs. They’ll annually review your child’s Statement.

It may take a few weeks to get this sorted, so your child should still attend school in the meantime.
