Road Safety Education & Training

Traffic accidents are the largest single cause of death and injury to children.

In 2000, the Government published their road safety strategy "Tomorrow's Roads - Safer for Everyone" with a target of 50% reduction in child casualties by the year 2010.

Bournemouth Borough Council’s Road Safety Team has a number of activities designed for children to help achieve this target.

Reducing the number of accidents on the road involves changing attitudes through a planned and structured programme for children and adults. Road awareness needs to be developed from an early age and continued throughout life.

The Road Safety Team offers a service to schools in Bournemouth which includes:

  • Road Safety projects and lessons tailored to the National Curriculum
  • Educational resources for loan
  • Guidance on school road safety policies

Our aim is to provide information through targeted road safety campaigns.
