Bournemouth’s cultural industries are both diverse and fast growing. Based here already are the fastest growing fitness, publishing and night-club companies in the UK. Bournemouth Orchestra is the largest arts organisation in
the south-west region and the University and Arts Institute are both centres of excellence in media production and design. There is potential to make more of the skills being developed and avoid the ‘leaching’ of Bournemouth’s cultural resources to other areas. There is also potential to showcase this innovative work to both residents and
visitors, helping to build the reputation of Bournemouth having a dynamic and creative cultural identity.

Like tourism, much of the cultural industries sector is fragmented and diverse, provided by very small businesses.
There is great scope for product development utilising new technologies. The lack of a cultural industries’ network is now inhibiting this development.
