Personal Searches – Bournemouth Borough Council
What is a Personal Search?

Any person may carry out a personal search of the Local Land Charges Register on paying the statutory fee, which is currently £11.

Please note:  we are only able to accept cheques in payment of fees due.

The Local Land Charges Section operates an appointments system.  The preferred method of contact is for you to fax Land Charges on 01202 451003 stating the preferred time for your appointment, together with the address/description of the property being searched and a contact telephone number.  On receipt of the fax Land Charges will contact you if your preferred time is not available to rearrange the appointment.

Please note:  Land Charges will advise Planning and Highways daily of all appointments – you do not need to contact these Departments direct.  Local Land Charges reception is located at the St Stephens’s Road entrance to the main town hall and Planning and Highways are in the annex also at St Stephen’s Road.

Currently due to demand, you are limited to 3 searches per agent per day and appointments will be available from 9.30am to 11.30am and from 2.00pm to 3.00pm on the hour or half-hour. If you are unable to keep the appointment please telephone Local Land Charges on 01202 454867/451119/451120 and a new time will be arranged.  Appointments can only be booked 48 hours in advance.

Personal Search Booking Arrangements as at 27th October 2008 are:

·      Appointments to carry out personal searches may be booked 48

hours in advance by contacting Local Land Charges at 9.00 am

       Monday to Friday.

 ·     Appointments are allocated on a first come first served basis.

 ·     Each personal searcher is restricted to no more than 3 personal

searches each day. Any spare appointment slots will be available to all agents to

apply for after 9.30am daily. These will be on a strictly first come first served basis, but

to be fair to all agents only an additional 3 searches per agent will be allowed if space

       permits.

 ·     The Local Land Charges Team will process a maximum of 15 personal

       searches each day.

What information will you receive on a statutory £11 Personal Search?

A personal search includes information from the Local Land Charges Register, Planning Register and Register of Enforcement Notices, Stop Notices and Breach of Condition Notices.  At Bournemouth Borough Council you can also visit Highways where you will be told if the highway is adopted. Further information on the proposal can be obtained by writing to Highways enclosing a cheque for £35.00. On request you will also be advised if a Definitive Right of Way abuts the property.

Supplementary information including answers to Con29 enquiries is not available on a personal search.  Any such enquiries should be submitted in writing to the relevant department.

Current Position:

The Council has recently installed a new electronic search processing system in its Local Land Charges section. The new system will help the Council to improve its service to customers in terms of turnaround times and the quality of information provided. The new system also includes a new personal search facility within the Council’s main reception area off St Stephen’s Road. The personal search facility is due to go live by the end of 2008.

The Local Land Charges Team will be contacting personal searches to seek their views on the operation of the new personal search facility before it goes live.
