These are shown marked with an asterisk.
If a road is included in more than one polling district, the entries in the index relating to that road are in alphabetical order of Polling District identifier letters.
The only property names appearing alphabetically in this Index are those which are included in the Register itself as sub-headings within roads. These are usually custom-built blocks of flats, properties which have been converted into flats and nursing homes, rest homes, etc.
Where a road extends into the area administered by another local authority, this fact is noted underneath the entry relating to that road, indicating the name of that other authority.
Bournemouth, for electoral purposes and like virtually every other local authority administrative area, is divided into geographical areas know as wards, of which there are now 18, the number having been reduced following the Periodic Electoral Review carried out by the Local Government Commission. Each ward is divided into three or more polling districts (which are each identified by a two-letter reference followed by a number, the two letters being an abbreviation of the ward name). These identifiers are shown in the first column of each page of the index, the ward name being shown in the second column. The ward names and polling districts included in them are shown at the bottom of this page, together with information as to which parliamentary constituency they are included in.
The last column indicates postcodes. If there is no postcode shown, this means that there is more than one postcode allocated to either the property or the street named.
There are a small number of addresses appearing (in numerical order) at the beginning of the Index before the alphabetical listing starts. These are properties which have been converted to multiple units of accommodation but which, at the time of printing, had not been allocated a name. They are treated in our property database as streets with houses in to speed up the process of adding individual units (named properties are held in the same way).
Please note that the new ward boundaries do not follow those of the Parliamentary constituencies yet - the Parliamentary Boundary Commission will be reviewing these in the near future. The existing Parliamentary boundaries may therefore cut through a small number of wards.
