BTiE breaks down barriers between actors and audiences to create a forum for learning, empowerment and change. It’s not about discovering the gifted few – it’s about finding the ability in everyone and enabling it to flourish.
- BTiE is part of Bournemouth Borough Council’s Children’s Services, based in Boscombe at the Bournemouth Centre for Community Arts(BCCA). We have over thirty years experience as actor/teacher/facilitators doing drama and educational theatre for and with young people, from Early Years to teenagers, and adult groups, including disabled adults and recovering addicts.
- We aim to bring learning to life in and out of school. We believe theatre (and drama) can help people find out more about the world and their place in the world while developing a positive culture of inclusion
Programmes of live performance and participatory drama, storytelling, forum theatre, community plays, publications, courses, workshops and training courses for pupils, students and teachers
- Creating enjoyment and appreciation of innovative, accessible live theatre;
- promoting positive attitudes and behaviour;
- enabling understanding and awareness of sensitive citizenship issues such as anti-racism and multi-cultural understanding;
- stimulating imaginative play & problem-solving in early years;
- supporting emotional and cognitive literacy work with non-disabled and disabled pupils;
- sharing and teaching good practice in drama methodology.
BTiE creates several original, high quality performances and workshops each year. These are often tailored to suit a group’s particular needs. We also offer a repertoire of successful programmes on relevant topics. On demand we can arrange training sessions for teachers, peer mentors, youth and community leaders in drama techniques as well as providing resource materials for follow up work and occasional work placements.
People who’ve worked with BTiE say that they’ve grown in self-confidence and self-esteem – as well as understanding. People also learn to become a valued member of a group, gaining skills in listening, speaking and co-operation.
A wide range of curriculum relevant topics such as child protection, drugs awareness, tackling racism, homophobia and bullying. In schools we also cover historical topics, such as Life in Ancient Greece or Egypt, Romans and Celts. There’s no limit – drama is about all of life!
BTiE’s current clients include schools, teachers and corporate groups, such as Higher Education institutes and NHS trusts - social inclusion work, teacher training, disability theatre and site-specific community plays, delivered in one off programmes or longer term projects.
